If you are experiencing hard times regarding your credit card and are finding it difficult to meet your repayment commitments you must do something positive about this situation. Do not be embarrassed about your situation just get on the phone and call your credit card issuer and start talking to them and seek a credit card debt negotiation arrangement with them. Depending on your repayment history with the card company, they may be willing to work with you in reducing the overall debt. If you have an outstanding repayment record for a year or more it is highly likely that the credit card company would be quite willing to enter a credit card debt negotiation, especially if you are open and honest with them about your current situation.

It could be that like many other individuals with a good credit history you may have been the victim of a restructure and find yourself unemployed. Alternatively your current financial troubles may be as a result of not being able to work through illness or injury and accordingly you find it impossible to make your regular monthly payments in a timely manner. By entering into credit card debt negotiation with the credit card company it is possible that they may be willing to reduce the amount of interest payable or lower the monthly repayments to help you overcome your current situation.

By doing this the credit card company does not have to expend their resources chasing you for late payments thus saving them a lot of time and money.

Every Company Has Different Guidelines

Every credit card company has different processes and procedures in place regarding delinquent accounts. If your initial attempts at negotiating an arrangement with a particular credit card debt is not successful it is suggested that you ask to speak to someone higher up in the chain of command. This is recommended because not everyone who answers the phone at the credit card company has the authority to enter or approve credit card debt negotiations.

If all your attempts to enter into credit card debt negotiation fail then you should consider going through a debt counseling service as they have a lot of experience with credit card debt negotiation. It is probable that they have worked with your own credit card company previously and have the appropriate contacts there.

Be proactive! Don’t wait for the credit card company to contact you about your late payments because if you do you will find it difficult, if not impossible, to enter into a credit card debt negotiation as they are likely to look more favorably on your situation if it is you who have made the first move.

So if you have problems making your regular monthly credit card repayments pick up the phone and call your card issuer today.
